Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the maxilla, a challenging diagnosis

چکیده
Objective: To present a pictorial review on central mucoepidermoid carcinoma.
Case report: Central carcinoma (CMEC), also known as intraosseous (IMEC), is an extremely rare disease (less than 2-4% of all MEC). However, CMEC the most frequent malignant salivary gland tumour found in locations. Due to this unusual location, diagnosis can be challenging. Therefore, often mistaken for other or odontogenic pathologies. Radiological assessment shouldinclude panoramic X-Ray, CBCT and thoracic CT, which should performed after diagnosis. The recommended treatment includes radical resection surgery, followed by radiotherapy if indicated. A long-term follow-up up 10 years.
Conclusion: authors experienced challenging through case patient who presented with slowly growing palatal mass.

Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the maxilla: a case report.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Primary mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the jaw is a rare lesion, comprising 2-3% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas reported in literature. Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the maxilla is rarer, comprising only 8% of the mucoepidermoid carcinomas found in the jaw. METHODOLOGY A 52-year-old man suffered from central mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the right maxilla with cerv...

Primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma (PIOC) is an infrequent malignancy of the head and neck that exhibits diverse biological behavior. The rareness of the location for a salivary gland tumor and the clinical and radiographic manifestations, suggestive of an odontogenic lesion often pose a diagnostic challenge. We hereby report such a unique case of central mucoepidermoid carcinoma tha...

Introduction: Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (CMEC) is a rare primary intraosseous bony lesion. The mandible is more commonly affected than the maxilla. CMEC is frequently misdiagnosed radiographically and clinically as a benign odontogenic tumor or cyst. Case Presentation: We present a rare case with a secondary malignant neoplasm. A male patient was initially diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodg...
متن کاملCentral mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the maxilla with unusual ground glass appearance and calcifications: A case report
Mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) arising within the jaws as primary central bony lesions are termed central MECs. Central MECs are extremely rare, comprising 2-3% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas. We herein report a rare case of central MEC of the maxilla in a 52-year-old male whose plain radiographs showed a "ground glass" pattern and computed tomographic images, a hypodense mass with numerous...
متن کاملThe Importance of Radiographic and Histologic Correlation in Diagnosis of Intra-Osseous Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma
Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the jaws is rare and it comprises 2–3% of all MECs reported in the literature. It may be similar to a glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC), mainly in incisional biopsies. The precise diagnosis of these lesions is essential since they have different treatment modalities and prognosis. This paper presented a 71-year-old male patient presented with a unilocula...
